Australia Deepens Cultural Engagement with Hong Kong at HKPAX 2026

(13 October 2026) Australian performing arts organisations played a starring role at the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo (HKPAX) 2026, showcasing their work and strengthening connections with international arts leaders, presenters and audiences.

On 13 October, the Australian Consulate-General Hong Kong and Creative Australia co-hosted an Australian Networking Reception at The Marquee of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, attended by more than 120 guests from Australia, Hong Kong and beyond. The event provided opportunities for artists, presenters, producers and cultural leaders to build new connections and explore future collaboration.

Australian Consul-General Hong Kong Gareth Williams said:

“Australian performing arts leaders were strongly represented at HKPAX 2026, providing opportunities to strengthen cultural exchange between Australia, Hong Kong and beyond.”

Eliza Jung, Senior International Project Officer of Arts Investment from Creative Australia said:

“Australian performing arts leaders were strongly represented at HKPAX 2026, providing opportunities to strengthen cultural exchange between Australia, Hong Kong and beyond.”

Australia’s HKPAX 2026 program features two highly regarded companies. Western Australian theatre company The Last Great Hunt presents Night Night, an imaginative production exploring sleep, dreams and the nocturnal world through storytelling and visual theatre.

Georgia Landre-Ord, Producer of The Last Great Hunt said:

“HKPAX felt like a gateway to the world. The energy was infectious, and the shows and artists were inspiring. I made genuine connections and, along the way, fell in love with Hong Kong.

Queensland-based One Fell Swoop Circus presents In Common, a contemporary circus work combining acrobatics and physical theatre to explore trust, connection and shared humanity.

Charice Rust, Co-Director of One Fell Swoop Circus said:

“HKPAX has been a wonderful chance to forge new relationships across the region. As Australia and Asia are neighbours, we have so much to share artistically, and starting those conversations face to face is always special.”
